General Information
The "The Retreat” in Tanzania is an ideal place if you yearn for relaxation and still have a penchant for adventure and authenticity. The Selous Game Reserve is an UNESCO World Heritage site since 1982, the largest controlled game reserve and it is considered the most pristine nature reserve in Africa. Especially the southern part of Tanzania is famous for its unspoiled wilderness which promises an unforgettable experience in the African bush. The runway of "The Retreat” is called Sumbazi and is approximately 30 minutes drive away from the hotel. From Dar es Salaam, the flight lasts about 70 minutes.
Rooms & Suites
The 12 luxury tented suites are located just off the fort and are between 30 and 50 meters away from each other and thus guarantee absolute privacy. They are built on teak platforms in a height up to six meters and fit seamlessly into the surrounding nature.
Culinary
Besides the restaurant in the Fort, there are several ways to pamper yourself with culinary delights. You can dine in private or with other guests. Depending on the weather surprise picnics, lunches and dinners are organized in the bush.
Body & Soul
The "Senses to Africa Spa" is situated on the shores of the Great Ruaha River. The African experience is the goal: Your senses are sharpened and the inner balance is getting retrieved. In an outdoor pavilion, various aromatherapy, hot stone massages, treatments with gemstones and invigorating brush massages are performed. Further more a Jacuzzi and a Vichy shower are also available. In addition, meditation and yoga classes are offered at specific dates.
Active
The Retreat offers half day as well as full day safari trips into the bush with open and comfortable safari jeeps and private guidance. You also have the opportunity to participate in guided bush walks, boat trips on the Great Ruaha River with its many hippos, crocodiles and water birds. A special highlight for the adventurous is the Fly camping, which provides the opportunity to stay overnight in a transparent nomad tent from where you can watch the stars. A luxurious shower tree is built in order to provide a washing facility. Further more a private chef provides everything for the physical well-being.
